Evangelicals and Catholics Together on Law

The Journal of Christian Legal Thought has just published a joint statement by a group of Evangelical and Roman Catholic legal scholars inspired by the well-known 1994 statement spearheaded by Chuck Colson and Richard John Neuhaus. Its subtitle is "The Lord of Heaven and Earth."

It is a sweeping and sometimes beautiful statement about God's gift of law. Signatories include, among others, evangelicals Os Guinness, Barb Armacost, and David Skeel, and Catholics Robert George, Rick Garnett, and Russell Hittinger.

My introduction to the Journal concludes:
Evangelicals and Catholics Together on Law is a timely and critical piece of cultural-theological commentary in the face of [recent] crises in legal education and the administration of public justice. While our law schools may be in flux, and confidence in the role of the state may be shaken, the kingdom of God, as the late Dallas Willard liked to say, is not in trouble.
More on this groundbreaking document in the weeks and months to come. But first, read the whole statement. The entire Journal issue is available free on Issuu, embedded below or via link to the Christian Legal Society website. Hard copies are available from CLS.
