Saint Patrick is a guy worth remembering.
Kidnapped by pirates, Patrick lived as a slave until his miraculous escape, featuring a 200-mile trek to a ship guided by "a voice." After returning to his family, he was called by God, through a dream, to return to Ireland:
I seemed at that moment to hear the voice of those who were beside the forest of Foclut which is near the western sea, and they were crying as if with one voice: 'We beg you, holy youth, that you shall come and shall walk again among us.' And I was stung intensely in my heart . . ., and thus I awoke.
And so he returned to Ireland to "walk among them."
Read his Confessio, where he tells it in his own words.
Thank you, Lord, for men and women who hear your voice and obey. May we do the same.
Mark Driscoll's meditation on Patrick from last year is well worth reading.
Happy Saint Patrick's Day!
